Filling In the Blank

I searched all my poems for “tabula rasa”

but found a blank slate—not a horse at the gate.

In this large, empty casa, I shouted “Qué pasa?”

There wasn’t an answer. I chose not to wait.

I decided to write a short verse to create

something fresh and unique, not unflavored or bland,

so at least one result would be found on my plate

in case anyone tried a “blank slate” search command.

And now that it’s there (who will search, who would care?),

although written in haste (and perhaps not first-rate)

in response to The Writers Club challenging dare,

maybe that’s where you’ll find it at some future date.
